Friday, June 10, 2011
These small brown spots appear on the cheeks, nose and sometimes on the arms and shoulders. Although the occurrence of freckles is tied to the sun, they can appear in winter and emerge in all their splendor during spring. Freckles are caused by increasing levels of melanin caused by the sunlight and do not present a health risk. Freckles are not carcinogenic, but many women consider them unaesthetic. People with red hair and green eyes are prone to freckles.
Although they can be masked with a little foundation and powder, people who want to get rid of freckles can do so. Here are a few solutions:
Vinegar macerated onions
You can lose the freckles, with this natural treatment: put a small, finely chopped onion in 50 ml of vinegar and let it soak for 10 days. Strain after 10 days and apply to areas with freckles twice every day. Don't rinse.
De-pigmentation creams
Products containing hydroquinone and kojic acid ca be found in pharmacies. If you apply the cream as directed, freckles disappear. But you should know that the skin becomes more vulnerable to sunlight, therefore you should use a moisturizer with high SPF.
Laser treatment
Several types of laser can reduce the appearance of freckles. It is a simple and safe procedure with high success rate and low risk of scarring or skin color changes.
Intense pulsed light treatments
Intense pulsed light treatments are different from laser treatments. A course of four to six treatments every two to three weeks is usually recommended. Recent tanning, or the use of artificial tans may result in adverse reactions and treatments must be delayed until the tan is gone.
Chemical peels
Chemical peels must be administered only by certified dermatologists. The treatment consists of burning a few layers of skin. The procedure leads to the formation of a crust that falls after at least a week, and the skin remains smooth and white. But be careful, possible complications include prolonged erythema, pigmentary changes, millia (white heads) or skin atrophy.
